Italian offshore solar 'a 2030s bet'

A floating offshore solar project could be built by the end of the decade and be part of a huge ramp-up in the technology in the coming years.

Francesco Melandri, energy engineer at Agnes, told the Seanergy conference that the Agnes Romagna 1 project off the coast of Lido di Classe in the Emilia Romagna region is on target to be built in 2030.

Asia warned over local content

Asian Pacific countries have been warned not to “overdo” local offshore wind content rules if they want more European investment.

Adam Thomsen, head of market and business development at developer Skyborn Renewables, told the second day of the Seanergy conference in Paris that, although understandable, such rules add to the challenges European firms face when entering the Asia Pacific region.

Crown Estate urged to clarify £400m spend

The UK Crown Estate has been urged to quickly decide where its new £400 million commitment to offshore wind is going to be spent.

The investment announced this week is intended to support the construction of new infrastructure, including ports, supply chain manufacturing, and research and testing facilities, to enable the deployment of offshore wind across Britain.

Spain urged to invest in offshore wind

The Spanish government has been urged to invest more money in offshore wind infrastructure or risk losing more ground to close neighbour Portugal.

Speaking at the Seanergy conference in Paris, Ángel Fernández Rodríguez, business development manager at Navantia Seanergies, said it has spent $100 million in the last three- or four-years boosting capacity in the Spanish offshore wind supply chain.
