2nd edition of the Greek Offshore Renewable Energy Conference 2024: a gateway to offshore wind opportunities

The second edition of the Greek Offshore Renewable Energy Conference, held on November 14, 2024, at the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, marked a significant milestone in advancing the offshore wind sector in Greece. Organized by Bluesign with INTEC and Akrocean, the event gathered 200 experts, industry leaders, and policymakers to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration between European and Greek stakeholders and to explore the promising future of offshore wind in Greece.

With Greece ready to tap into its vast offshore wind potential, the conference served as a platform to share insights from leading markets across Europe and France in particular, highlighting strategies, technological advancements, best practices and track record from project developments.

Sabrina Peseux, CEO of Bluesign, emphasized the importance of fostering cross-border collaboration:
« By sharing French and European expertise and learning from Greece’s ambitions, we aim to create a collaborative framework to unlock the country’s offshore renewable energy potential. This event is a testament to our commitment to connecting European actors and supporting them in building a sustainable energy future. »

The program featured high-level speakers, engaging panel discussions, and interactive sessions focused on the local development landscape, regulatory frameworks, and investment opportunities.
The event attracted participation from key players in the industry, including representatives from Motor Oil Renewable Energy, Oxan Energy, Terna Energy, PPC Renewables, HELLENiQ Energy, Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port, Iberdrola, Hitachi Energy, Jifmar, and notable figures from both Greek and international institutions. The interactive panels explored essential topics such as the local development landscape, grid connections, financing models, and supply chain challenges and opportunities for the emerging market.

« As Greece embarks on its offshore wind journey, this conference has provided a vital opportunity to connect with experienced markets and tailor global insights to our local needs. Collaboration with French partners is key to building a robust and inclusive value chain that supports our national goals for economic growth and sustainability, » said Ifigenia Tzavelas, CEO at INTEC.

With its strategic discussions and networking opportunities, this event reinforced the belief that the future of offshore wind in Greece is supported by a shared determination to innovate and

cooperate at the European level, laying the groundwork for sustained growth and success in the sector.

« We are convinced that strong partnerships established as early as possible—sometimes two or three years before the first commercial success—are key to significantly enhancing local industrial content. This is essential for political and societal acceptance of the energy transition, » said Matthieu Blandin, CSO of Akrocean.

Bluesign and its partners reaffirm their commitment to supporting Greece in its energy transition by fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening international partnerships. As the country prepares to meet its ambitious offshore wind targets, engaging all actors in the value chain – public and private actors – will be critical for success.
